Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. To Supply M501GAC Combined Cycle Power Train For Portland General Electric Carty Generating Station
Lake Mary, FL /PRNewswire/ - Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MPSA) received an order from Abengoa, through its U.S. subsidiary, to supply a natural gas powered Combined Cycle Power Train for installation at the Carty Generating Station, a new gas turbine combined cycle power plant being built for Portland General Electric (PGE) nearBoardman, Oregon. The power train includes Mitsubishi's state-of-the-art M501GAC gas turbine, SRT-50 reheat steam turbine, and heat recovery steam generator.
Once built, the Carty Generating Station will have 440 megawatts of baseload generation capacity and be able to produce reliable power to meet the energy needs of over 300,000 PGE customers. Construction of the power plant is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2016. This will be the second power plant in PGE's fleet to be powered by Mitsubishi's innovative power train technology.
Mitsubishi's M501GAC gas turbine is one of the most efficient, large capacity gas turbines in the world. Mitsubishi has received orders for more than 77 units of the G series turbine worldwide, including more than 39 units in North America. The M501GAC gas turbine to be installed at the Carty Generating Station will be manufactured at MPSA's Savannah Machinery Works, a modern gas turbine manufacturing and service facility located in Savannah, GA. Mitsubishi's SRT-50 steam turbine utilizes an advanced 50-inch last stage blade for improved plant performance. The Carty Generating Station represents Mitsubishi's fourteenth order for a steam turbine unit with this 50-inch blade design which provides for higher efficiency turbines compared to units with smaller blades.
Gas turbine combined cycle power plants generate electricity in two stages through the combined use of gas and steam turbines. High temperature exhaust from the gas turbine is used to produce the steam that drives the steam turbine. This configuration enables power plants to achieve higher thermal efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and lower emissions.
Under a separate long term service agreement, MPSA will provide the Carty Generating Station with comprehensive turbine maintenance, repair and outage services, replacement parts supply, and dedicated remote monitoring for its gas turbine.
